What’s in the Box Nokia Mural handset, rechargeable battery, charger, quick start guide, user manual AT&T Services High-speed data connectivity via AT&T’s 3G mobile broadband data network: The dual-band 850/1900 MHz 3G network provides up to 3. 6/7. 2 Mbps of download speed, making it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless multimedia services, and it gives you the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. Additionally, this phone is also compatible with 2100 MHz 3G networks found in international territories. (For use outside the United States, an AT&T international data plan is recommended. ) In areas where the 3G network is not available, you’ll continue to receive service on the AT&T EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it’s fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. The full-featured, premium AT&T Navigator GPS navigation application includes audible turn-by-turn directions, real-time traffic updates and re-routing options, and 3D moving maps (additional charges applicable). AT&T Navigator offers several other features to make your commute more enjoyable and reliable, including mobile access to Yellowpages. com. Additionally, AT&T Navigator is the only mobile phone-based GPS service that provides integrated speech recognition for address entry and points of interest search. Push-to-Talk (PTT) functionality enables you to instantly contact any other AT&T user. PTT works across the entire network to make sure you have a clear signal so you can get things done. Easy-to-read icons let you know when members of your contact list are available, not available, or have their status set to “Do Not Disturb. ” You can also set your own status to let others know that you’re busy. When a quick PTT call needs to be a longer discussion convert the call easily to a regular voice call–works for one-to-one calls as well as group calls. Save time on group calling by pulling up your contacts and simply “marking” those you wish to include on a call–no need to set up and save groups before calling, unless you want to. AT&T’s Video Share service enables you to send a live, one-way video stream to another compatible phone during a standard voice call. The service also allows you to switch the direction of the video stream during the same phone call. (Customers must be in an area served by the company’s 3G network and have a Video Share-enabled phone. ) While using Video Share with family and friends is a fun way to communicate, it’s also very useful for business. For example, a majority of users in the architecture, engineering and construction industries rated the ability to share live video through Video Share highly, according to research commissioned by AT&T. Video Share lets you see progress on a job site or review the day’s work without having to drive from an office or other site to do so. AT&T Mobile Music enables you to buy tracks while on the go, access the Napster and eMusic subscription music services, stream music video, discover what’s playing with Music ID song-recognition software, and find out what’s hot with The Buzz music news portal. Disguise your flagship Nseries device as a retro brick phone
Nokia N97 gets anti-theft device 0

What to do to protect your $600 Nokia N97 from muggers in New York city? Disguise it as an ancient Eighties brick phone. What’s clever about this anti-theft solution is not just the hardware casing, but the software app that transforms the N97’s touchscreen to look like an old keypad. Hit play to see it in action.

Hands-on with the 5800’s little brother
Nokia XpressMusic 5530 First Look 0

Here’s Nokia’s XpressMusic 5530 handset in video form. We were lucky enough to get a hands-on play with the company’s Cookie rival, and were impressed with the price, if not blown away by the features.

The handset will be showing up across most major networks on 11 August and will cost £129 on pay-as-you-go, or £15/month on contract. It’s a solid touchscreen phone, with plenty of media features, but the lack of 3G is only just made up for by the inclusion of Wi-Fi.

To keep costs down and battery life up, there’s no GPS or other high-end smartphone features. On the bright side, that should mean that unlike high-end smartphones, its battery will last longer than a day. We’ll have to see how that turns out in the real world when we get a review model in, so stay tuned for that.

New mouse alternative available now
Kensington SlimBlade TrackBall priced for the UK 0

Kensington’s SlimBlade Trackball, already revealed in the States, has been priced for a UK launch.

Suitable both for the Mac and PC users, Kensington claims the input device “brings a whole new level of control, comfort and ease to today’s digital savvy users”.

You’re going to have to be prepared to pay for such control though as the UK “street price” is set at £99. This compares to the US price of $129 (£75).

A hardware and software combo, Kensington says the ball can be used for navigation, media control adjustments, document and photo browsing, zooming and more.

A ruby red ball atop a gunmetal grey base, Kensington promises “a relaxed and comfortable user experience”.

Cookie rival coming to the UK
Nokia's XpressMusic 5530 gets priced and dated 0

Nokia has announced that its XpressMusic 5530 handset will be arriving in the UK on 11 August. Billing it as a rival to LG’s “Cookie” handset, Nokia’s new phone is a low-end touchscreen aimed at teenagers.

It’s going to cost £130, or it’ll be free on a £15/month contract. It hasn’t been announced yet which networks will be carrying it, but we’d guess it’ll be showing up as widely as possible. It’ll be available in Black/Red and Blue/White colour combos and Nokia says the phone offers “superb value for money”.

As previously reported, it’s a 2G handset, but it does pack Wi-Fi alongside its 2.9-inch resistive touchscreen, 3.2-megapixel camera and 3.5mm headphone jack. It runs at the same resolution as the N97, but the screen is smaller, so expect crisp images compared to Nokia’s flagship handset.

Keep an eye on Pocket-lint for a full hands-on video and review.
