Microsoft Office Web Components fix on way

9 security bulletins are scheduled by Microsoft for the 11th of August and includes 1 security bulletin for addressing a critical vulnerability which Microsoft warned was under attack, Microsoft Office Web Components.

Microsoft Office Web Components can be exploited to gain control of a venerable system as the bug lies in the Spreadsheet ActiveX control and when using IE the ActiveX control can corrupt the system state resulting in an attacker running arbitrary code.

The security bulletin covering that issue affects Microsoft Visual Studio, Microsoft Office, BizTalk Server, ISAServer, and the other 4 bulletins focus on Microsoft Windows.

Microsoft Publish Windows 7 Upgrade Chart

An official Windows 7 upgrade chart has now been released by Microsoft and this upgrade chart explains the upgrades from both Windows Vista and Windows XP upgrading to Windows 7 OS.

What the Windows 7 upgrade chart does basically is it give the user an idea of if they will need to do a clean install or can simply upgrade the OS, but the chart does seem somewhat confusing for the average user.

Microsoft Publish Windows 7 Upgrade Chart

Microsoft has obviously tried to be thorough with the chart and includes both 32-bit and 64-bit editions, but it would have been simpler to combine the 2 rows as the upgrade paths are identical.

Microsoft Denies Show Stopper bug in Windows 7

There is apparently a bug in Windows 7 called “show Stopper” claims technology experts, and this bug centres on the Chkdsk exe utility in Windows machines and the word is this may well delay the release of the latest Windows OS by Microsoft.

However, Microsoft deny that this so called “show stopper” bug will delay the release of Windows 7, and put the blame squarely on the shoulders of chip set controller issues, and thus is playing down the vulnerability.

Even though Microsoft denies this bug, early users of Windows 7 have been advised to update their chip set drivers to the current driver supplied by the manufacturer of the motherboard to ensure the problem doesn’t become an issue.

Windows 7 has Critical Showstopper Bug?

Reports of a “show stopper” bug in Windows 7 is capable of delaying the planned roll out, and Microsoft has blamed a chip controller issue rather than admit there is a critical but in the Windows 7 chkdsk/r tool which could well cause a memory leak which in turn could cause a PC to seize and crash.

After the president of Microsoft’s Windows division, Steven Sinofsky, took on bloggers and online forums that jumped on Windows 7 and the Microsoft development and testing process. Windows 7 customers have been advised to update their chipset drivers to the present driver supplied by their motherboard maker.

Apparently, Sinofsky has said that Microsoft has not reproduced the crash and has not experienced any crashes with chkdsk on the stack and took particular exception to the terms “critical bug” and “showstopper,” in Windows 7.
