Michael Douglas plays a rich, divorced, and dreadful investment banker whose 48th Birthday reminds him of the suicide of his father in the same age group. He plays in the cage for his own misery until his rebellious younger brother (Sean Penn) gives him a lock of the birthday invitation, "The Game" (as "an experimental Book of the Month Club" means) – an offer from a company called Consumer Recreation Services. Before he knows that the game has even begun, Douglas is removed in a series of inexplicable events recognize him on his weak security and threw him caught in a vortex of chaos. How to play a game with no rules? That's what Douglas has to figure out, and he can not always rely on his intelligence to create the logic of what has happened to him.
